Portraying him as just a Carnatic singer and a Veena player would be an understatement. He works enormously to profuse Carnatic music to common people and has two festivals that he organizes every year in Trivandrum,Kerala, the Kuthiramalika and the Navaratri festivals. Having studied under the patronage of the great Sangeethakalanidhi, Dr.M.Balamuralikrishna, with whom he shares a special bond, there is an irresistible combination of tenderness and melody in his renditions.
Fluent in Malayalam, English, Hindi, Tamil and French, Rama Varma is well read and has traveled widely and uses inputs from walks of life other than music too to enrich his art. His music is noted for its strict adherence to tradition coupled with his own charming brand of creativity.
He has given concerts all over India and in other countries like USA, UK, France, Germany, Kuwait, Dubai and The Netherlands, to mention a few.His first CD was released at The Queen Elizabeth Hall, London and he has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in Europe. He is a member of the Royal Family of Travancore and is a direct descendant of Maharaja Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma and Raja Ravi Varma.
In this Carnatic recital,Prince Rama Varma would be accompanied by musicians on the Mridangam (B.Harikumar), Ghatam (Dr S.Karthick) and Violin (Avaneeshwaram S.R Vinu). He will finish the concert with some of his renditions of French songs by Jacques Brel and Edith Piaf towards the end.
A real treat for all music lovers!
