‘Ceux qui restent’ depicts the relationship that develops between a man and a woman, in a hospital, where the wife of the man and the husband of the woman are treated for cancer. Bertrand comes to the hospital every day to see his wife, who is suffering from breast cancer. He meets Lorraine, whose partner is suffering from colon cancer, and Lorraine soon proposes to drop him by her car every day to help him avoid a long bus ride. Companions to terminally ill partners, Bertrand & Lorraine, guilty of being alive, decide to help each other to live, to laugh and to love.
Released in Paris in August 2007, Ceux qui restent was awarded the César Awards in France for the ‘Best Actor’, ‘Best First Film’ and ‘Best Original Screenplay’ categories in the same year. This film was also shown as part of the ‘Rendez-Vous with French Cinema’ at the Lincoln Center, NewYork, from 29 February to 9 March 2008.
