Emmanuelle Leblanc envisions the creation of a series of large portraits (minimum human scale) of women, exhibited in strategic locations in Hyderabad. The models, both Indian and European, would represent various identities and generations. Their common feature will be to embody an independent, strong, luminous or resilient position, whether through their temperament, their profession or their history. These portraits will merge codes of European and Indian pictorial traditions and be produced from digitally and / or pictorially enhanced photographs.
This project is an extension of an experiment conducted in 2014 in the city of Vitry-sur-Seine as part of the International Women’s Day. It is also a development of the work started by Emmanuelle Leblanc during an artistic residency in Hyderabad in 2019, supported by Alliance Française of Hyderabad, Bordeaux Métropole, the Government of Telangana and the Krishnakriti foundation. This year’s residency is a collaboration between the French Embassy in India, the French Institute in India, Alliance Française of Hyderabad, Bordeaux Métropole, Indian Photo Festival and the Government of Telangana.
About the artist:
Born in France in 1977 Emmanuelle Leblanc lives and works in Bordeaux.
Stemming from portrait tradition and photo-realism, Emmanuelle’s work gravitates towards abstract minimalism, which tends to perpetuate the Color Field Experience practices. Thus, through her small or large canvases and sometimes, sculptural installations, the “figurative” image tends to gradually, but more and more significantly disappear only to re-emerge accidentally.
Emmanuelle Leblanc has exhibited in different galleries and art institutions in France and abroad.
Alliance Française of Hyderabad is proud to host Emmanuelle for her shooting sessions with models from Hyderabad.
Her work will be exhibited at the State Art Gallery (inauguration on 18th November at 5pm), on the fences of KBR Park as part of the Indian Photo Fest Exhibition and other locations in the city.
