Organic Waste Composter was installed at Alliance Francaise Cafeteria  on 6th September, 2019 in association with Peepal Waste Managers, a pioneer Waste Management Company in Hyderabad.  Mr Samuel Berthet, Director, Alliance Francaise inaugurated the composter by adding the left over kitchen waste from the cafeteria.

A composter is a container used for composting. Composting is nature’s process of recycling decomposed organic materials into a rich soil known as compost. The Composter installed at AF Cafetaria works on the principle of Hot Pile Composting, which is aerobic breakdown of organic matter releasing Carbon dioxide and Heat.

The material that can be fed to the composter includes skins or peals of vegetables, fruits, left over rice, used tea powder/ coffee powder, egg shells, dry organic kitchen waste, etc. Generally it takes 30-40 days for this organic waste to convert into compost. Peepal composters are technically devised to provide proper aeration and right proportions of cocopeat powder and microbes are mixed with the organic waste to convert it into compost.

Compost can be used as a nutrient rich organic fertilizer to the plants. The price of compost varies from Rs.10 per Kg to Rs.100 per Kg, depending on the quality. The excess compost can be reused again to compost the further organic waste.
