BIOGRAPHY:
Shaila Nambiar is an Artist, her art explores the sensitive issues of women in today’s times. Womanhood, an ever-changing concept defined by society and culture. A biological fact that has created various implications for her all over the world. There is a constant effort to reconcile the dissimilarities of identity reflected through standards of beauty, sexuality, and gender roles. Her sculptural forms incorporate objects used by women, to draw fluctuating parallels between the expected and the unexpected; which challenges the role ascribed to women by the traditional society. Her work meets the eye of the spectator as a product of rebellion.
Her works has been displayed in various platforms- ANIMA MUNDI Art festival- Venice, ‘SWEET ‘ART Femfest an Art festival- London, India Art Fair– Delhi, India Habitat Centre– Delhi, The Loft Gallery– Mumbai, The State Art Gallery and Daira Centre for Arts and Culture in Hyderabad.
She graduated from M.S. University, Baroda in Painting and obtained Post-Graduation in Textile design from National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad.
