About the speaker
Ms. Sakeena is a researcher, writer, and educator based in Washington, D.C., who divides her time between India and the United States through her work and travels. Her roots and heart, however, remain deeply tied to Hyderabad.
She served as an educator and Director of the Early Childhood Education Center at the Foreign Service Institute in Washington, D.C., where, among her various responsibilities, a highlight of her role was curating cultural and art programs that fostered cross-cultural
understanding and appreciation.
As an independent researcher, her work focuses on heritage, socio-cultural narratives, and architectural history, areas which she approaches with a strong sense of purpose and commitment.
In addition, she dedicates her time to non-profit organisations that support education, youth development, and women’s empowerment.
Currently, she is authoring her first book and has recently completed her research project focused on Women of the Deccan, which was selected at the National Seminar on Mapping Regional Cultures, and is now in the process of publication.
Building on this research, Sakeena has upcoming radio podcasts that will bring the stories, voices, and legacies of the Deccan’s cultural and historical heritage to a wider audience. Through these engaging episodes, she aims to make history accessible, conversational, and inspiring for listeners across generations.
Above all, a proud Hyderabadi, Sakeena continues to keep her city’s rich culture and heritage alive through her research, writing, and community engagement.
