Curated by India’s youngest Padmashri awardee in theatre, playwright-director-actor Mohammad Ali Baig (son of theatre legend late Qadir Ali Baig), Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival is one of the most anticipated theatre festivals in the subcontinent. Held in Hyderabad during November every year, it brings together the biggest assembly of renowned theatre practitioners from across the world. The Festival, now in its 11th edition, is regarded as one of the most prestigious theatre events in the country’s cultural calendar and is Hyderabad’s landmark cultural event. The annual Festival is performed over a fortnight in various languages, across multiple venues in Hyderabad, featuring over 200 artistes.
This year, the Festival features international playwrights Mohammad Ali Baig, Federico Garcia Lorca, Indian playwrights Rabindranath Tagore, Mahesh Dattani, Tom Alter, Directors Lillette Dubey, Sohaila Kapur, Avijit Dutt, Seema Biswas, Quasar Thakore Padamsee and Ireland’s Murray Molloy. Featuring plays include ”Gauhar’, ‘Dr. Khanna’, ‘Bebe ka Chamba’, ‘Streer Patra’, ‘Noor Jehan: An Empress Reveals’ and ‘1857: Turrebaz Khan‘ (that premiered internationally in Edinburgh and London). The Festival’s ‘Master Classes’ include sessions by Seema Biswas, Sohaila Kapur and others.
