UDAAN, by Vikramaditya Motwane

Synopsis : After being abandoned for 8 years in boarding school, Rohan returns to the small town of Jamshedpur and finds himself closeted with an authoritarian father and a younger half brother who he didn’t even know existed. Forced to work in his father’s steel factory and study engineering against his wishes, he tries to forge his own life out of his given circumstances and pursue his dream of being a writer.

Director : Vikramaditya Motwane has assisted Sanjay Leela Bansaali in some of his films and turned independent through this film. He along with Anuraag Kashyap penned the story and screenplay of the film. It took 7 years to find a producer and it was finally jointly produced by well known writer, director Anuraag Kashyap, Sanjay Singh and UTV.

Recognition at Cannes : The film was officially selected for the  “un certain regard” category at the  2010 Cannes Film festival. It was the first Indian film to be part of the Cannes’ official section in seven years.
