About the artist :
Delphine Delas is a french artist from Bordeaux who intends to design and make murals inspired by Ella Maillart on the streets of Hyderabad. This is an urban art project combining elements taken from the life of the great Swiss traveller, writer and photographer, her 1940-45 Indian photographic archive, the context of World War 2 and urban art.

An Urban Project : She has always tested the boundaries between the real and imaginary, travelling and the traveller, by combining cross-disciplinary notions in her artistic proposals. Her creation also favours mythological characters, hybrid creatures inspired by ancient civilisations, pagan rituals, and dream-like worlds, be they poetic, imaginary or parallel, where nature comes frst and human beings are all but a memory or have undergone a metamorphosis.

Ella Maillart spent five years of her life (1940-1945), in the south of India in the company of sages Ramana Maharshi and Atmananda Krishna Menon. Beyond her extraordinary destiny, Ella Maillart embodies not only ideals of liberty, autonomy, equality, and creativity but also the courage of a woman. Her rejection of social and gender norms actually makes her a contemporary icon that needs to be brought to the fore.
